Issa Rae gets second chance on television with new comedy Insecure

Issa Rae is taking her career to another new level, from the internet to television. She has received a pilot order for “Insecure” from HBO a comedy she created alongside with Larry Wilmore. The show was initially being developed in 2013 but Wilmore landed “The Nightly Show “on Comedy Central

The comedy “Insecure” is a half-hour comedy show starring Rae, that shows the “awkward experiences and racy tribulations” of a modern African American woman. The plot of the new show is closely related to her web series. Wilmore will be the show’s executive producer while Rae is the co-executive producer. Other producer involved with the show include Jonathan Berry, Michael Rotenberg and Dave Becky. Director and showrunner are yet to be named. 3 Arts Entertainment will produce the comedy show.

Issa Rae is otherwise known for her award winning web series The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl. She had previously sought a place on television in 2012 with an ABC series” I hate LA Dudes: which she had planned with producer Shonda Rhimes. ABC later passed on the series a year layer and now “Insecure gives Rae a second chance on television.

Forbes has added Rae to “30 under 30” list and Glamour magazine has also included her in its “35 under 35”.Rolling stones has also named her as one of 23 funniest people in America. Her YouTube channel has over 180,000 viewers and has over 20 million views.

Besides television Rae’s book, “The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl”, which is a collection of essays based on her web series hit the shelves on February 10.
